At Sunrun we start with safety
Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our people and our communities. Sunrun's culture is built around the idea of always putting safety first. We're investing in our people, equipment, and technology to raise workplace safety metrics even further.
Through continuous training, innovation, and collaboration, we work tirelessly to ensure that safety is ingrained in our DNA. Our goal is to not only comply with regulations but to set a benchmark for safety excellence in our industry. We are firm in our belief that all accidents are preventable, and we will spare no effort in our pursuit of a safer, more secure future.
We launched the Safe-to-start program in 2022, a new program that mandates a full jobsite safety check before any work is done, resulting in a material decrease in serious accidents and safety violations. It is critical that our employees and customers understand that safety will always be a top priority at Sunrun.
Using technology to improve safety
To further demonstrate its commitment to safety, Sunrun has assembled the largest drone fleet in residential solar to perform site inspections and audits. The technology to perform drone-based site inspections is now at 100% of Sunrun branches. Sunrun received the Guardian of Safety Award in 2022 from DroneDeploy, the leading reality capture platform in the world. The award is given to businesses that use reality capture programs to reinvent old labor methods and enhance worker safety.
Employee support & development
We believe people work best when they are developed, promoted, and held accountable with clear expectations and communication.
Training is essential to our success and each business line uses their expertise to design workforce-specific training programs that focus on the necessary skills and education needed for our employees to thrive in their roles. This includes in-person instruction, on-the-job training, and just-in-time training.
Sunrun's Learning Management System called Sol (Sunrun Online Learning) is our main tool for centralized content management and online learning. Through this approach, we have improved content quality and consistency, while lowering learning curves for all employees. Sol hosts approximately 400 courses, from general Sunrun information like New Hire Orientation to skill-specific content.
Through our education and upskilling program, PowerU, we're breaking one of the largest barriers to continuous and higher education. This benefit makes the cost of pursuing higher education to learn new and essential skills to advance their career attainable for everyone. Every year, hundreds of Sunrunners submit applications to begin their journey of becoming a Certified Electrician at zero cost to them, and more than 300 employees have been promoted to a new role after completing a program since the program began.

We are dedicated to powering communities and making a lasting difference where we live and work. Our commitment goes beyond products and services – it’s about creating positive change, fostering growth, and nurturing the well-being of the people and places we serve. Through collaborative efforts, our people provided more than 6,700 hours of volunteer work to a variety of causes in 2022.
Serving people & communities
In marginalized communities, we are supporting the development of solar systems on affordable multifamily housing. As of December 2022, our 150 completed projects are delivering meaningful energy savings each month to over 11,100 households. We are also strengthening these communities by providing career pathways in the solar industry. We completed more than 6,500 hours of solar job training in 2022 for residents in disadvantaged communities so that they can be well positioned for good-paying jobs in the solar industry.
Volunteer time off
Sunrun believes in giving employees the opportunity to help build stronger communities. Every year, we provide our people with volunteer time off to allow them to participate in community engagement opportunities that are meaningful, purposeful, and help those in need.
Empowered giving program
Sunrun’s Empowered giving program makes it easier for employees to identify volunteer opportunities and make donations to charitable organizations. We've invested more than $3 million in the program to provide employee matching for both contributions and volunteer hours. We believe this will serve as a catalyst to greatly increase staff volunteerism.
